A 1981 TV movie called ‘The Oklahoma City Dolls’ is the best sports film of all time

The best sports film of all time is a 1981 made-for-TV movie called The Oklahoma City Dolls. This is not an assertion made lightly. Sports have inspired countless memorable films, and I, for one, certainly can't profess to have seen them all. Nevertheless, it's hard to imagine that any of the others tell as smart — and as progressive — a story as the mostly-forgotten Dolls, which you can only currently watch via YouTube bootlegs. Name another movie that articulates class struggle via a group of blue-collar women fighting to form their own football team, complete with thoughtful, but not forced, discussions of gender politics and labor rights. In that light, Waylon Jennings' on-screen debut as the befuddled love interest is just the icing on the cake. "It held up better than we would have thought," says Susan Blakely, 71, who starred as Sally Jo Purkey — a disgruntled factory worker turned quarterback. Celebrities with surprising and unusual hobbies from hoarding insects to Johnny Depp's Barbie doll collection

Celebrities are constantly in the spotlight wowing in sleek outfits with glam makeup and hair looks, but behind closed doors, when they're not walking the red carpet or gracing us with their presence on TV screens, certain stars have some pretty random hobbies. Our interest was peaked when we fixed our eyes on presenter Jonathan Ross' epic man cave during an appearance on Loose Women whilst talking about life in lockdown. In the background an eclectic conglomeration of comics, cult films, games, books and more could be spotted and, no, Jonathan's hobby isn't hoarding, but is instead comics, and characters from them! Oh, and he's not alone, with TV chef Gino D'Acampo also being a huge fan and, in his Hertfordshire home, he has an entire glass cabinet dedicated to Marvel and DC superheroes. Which got us thinking – which other quirky celebrity hobbies are there out there? Let's take a look… Johnny Depp Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articl...

Treasures: Martha Jenks Chase doll in good condition

Dear Helaine and Joe: I have enclosed phots of a doll that was my mother's as a child. She was born in 1918, so I think this doll would have been purchased in the early 1920s. It has a trademark on its hip that informs me this is a Chase doll. It is 14 inches tall and has clothes consisting of pantaloons, chemise, dress, socks, shoes and a crocheted sweater. I do not know how many of these items are original. Any information about this doll would be appreciated. Sincerely, S. P., Austin, Texas Just the other night while watching network television, we saw an episode of a popular show in which the wife decorated the family living room with her aunt's doll collection. The idea was to freak out her husband so he would remove an eyesore that he had placed above the family's fireplace. Predictably, the husband came home, found these childhood playthings and had an attack of the so-called heebie-jeebies. In short, the husband found the collection...
